From ASK to enevo – Relationships, Service and Value for Money

Hello – I’m Paul Sessford, a Class 2 A, B & D Registered Building Inspector with over 25 years’ experience in Building Control, primarily in North Yorkshire and the Harrogate area.

In 2012, I founded ASK Building Control to be a trusted partner, helping contractors, developers, and building owners navigate compliance with confidence. Good Building Control isn’t just about ticking boxes (though we do that!) or flagging barriers. It’s about collaboration, clarity, and practical solutions to keep projects moving while meeting safety and regulatory standards.

Now, as we transition from ASK to enevo, I’ve been reflecting on what this means for us and our clients. My conclusion? Everything that made ASK great remains. We’re only getting stronger.

A natural evolution, not just a name change

Joining C80 Group in 2021 was a step towards a stronger, unified future. We became part of a group dedicated to safety, compliance, and efficiency across the built environment.

Now, as we evolve into enevo, we reinforce those values. This is the next logical step. Our people, principles, and passion for service remain unchanged.

If you worked with ASK before, little changes. You’ll still see the same familiar faces (myself included!). You’ll continue to get the straightforward, proactive advice we’re known for, with the same collaborative, hands-on approach.

It’s all down to experience…

Good Building Control is about real-world problem-solving. It’s understanding site pressures and finding practical solutions without compromising safety or compliance.

When I started ASK, my goal was simple: make Building Control an enabler, not an obstacle. Over the years, I’ve built strong relationships with developers, contractors, and building managers, helping projects progress with clear, no-nonsense guidance.

I’ve seen companies come and go—some leaving a legacy, others disappearing after cutting corners. The ones that last prioritise expertise, integrity, and service. Cheaper doesn’t always mean better, especially in this industry.

The true cost of “cheap” compliance

There’s always someone willing to do it cheaper. But “cheap” doesn’t always mean “cost-effective” or “compliant.” Companies saving a few quid upfront often pay later in rework, delays, and reputational damage.

Quick sign-offs often mean something was missed—a risk no one can afford. Today’s regulatory climate demands greater accountability and competence. The Grenfell Inquiry and ongoing reforms are reshaping Building Control. Quick approvals are over, and rightly so.
